The dual-socket R650 server allows up to 40 physical cores on each socket, summing up to 80 cores by utilizing the Platinum modules. With just 1U space, the powerful CPU can perform very fast I/O with PCIe 4 at up to 3200 MT/s.

R650 Dell servers are built with comprehensive cyber-resilient architecture anchored by silicon root of trust, digitally signed firmware, and unauthorized access control. The security is ingrained profoundly into the platform throughout its lifecycle along with the stringent monitoring and management mechanism, by utilizing Dell EMC’s OpenManage software.

The R650 uses cutting-edge RAID controllers with PERC controllers to support better resource management and virtualization. The two, M.2 Boot optimized storage subsystems allow optional hot-swap drives. PERC internal and external controllers offer flexibility with how the RAID can be deployed for optimum performance and economy without sacrificing performance cycles.

The R650 server can accommodate 8TB DDR4 memory and has risers for a maximum of three 75 W single-width GPUs. In addition, it can cater to substantial throughput requirements and improvements with PCIe Gen 4 and max 12 NVMe drives, making it ideal for data centers, AL/ML, VDI, and HPC workloads. These workloads also demand improved air-cooling features which are reached by Direct Liquid Cooling for better control in the Dell R650.

Dell EMC R650 works seamlessly with all the prevalent operating systems and hypervisors, including Citrix Hypervisor, VMware ESXi, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Canonical Ubuntu Server LTS, Microsoft Windows Server with Hyper-V, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. Dell R650’s compatibility matrix is concrete as it is tested and qualified to perform well with all the listed and even non-listed OSs and hypervisors.

The PowerEdge R650 servers give you full redundancy options with hot-swappable power supplies that can be removed or added when the server is powered on. There are three wattage options: 1400W, 800W, and 1100W in mixed modes. With 2 cooling options, viz. air cooling and processor liquid cooling (optional), and 2 PSUs on both sides, there is an improved cooling system specially provided for high-wattage CPUs.
